It's been awhile since my last post and we should have been on our way to Maine several weeks ago but we've stayed in St Augustine after a fortunate discovery while here. I say fortunate because if the very small tumor in my breast had gone undetected it would have been December before my next mammogram. My previous mammogram (Dec. 2014) came back normal. Early detection is definitely the key here and although there was no history of breast cancer in my family, there it was. An ultrasound clearly identified its existence and from the point of confirmation via a biopsy to successful surgery to remove it as well as 5 lymph nodes near it, a total of 2 and a half weeks passed. Pretty miraculous, I'd say. All of this has taken place at Mayo Clinic and I can't say enough about the care we have received there. I am grateful that it is part of our area's claim to fame and I'm also extremely grateful for my good friend Patty and her help guiding me through all of this. Jeff has been there every step of the way and provided excellent nursing skills! I will have to undergo 6 weeks of daily radiation in August/Sept so we've decided to skip town and fly to Maine for the next month to spend some R&R in the cottage and enjoy getting together with our friends in the cooler weather. It's been extremely hot here for the past few weeks and we're ready for a break! Boy, are we looking forward to some fresh Maine lobster and clams!
